bar fun
who knew hosterman could juggle?

anyway, ally went on this pier and did a couple of shots and her hair was soaked and she was wearing heels but her jeans were drenched and she waited out the rainstrom and the jeans felt like they were 30 pounds and she had to take her top off for the shots and mexicans came by and gawked at her and then the photographer yelled at them and said "he didn't want pictures of them he wanted pictures of that!" and that was funny.

i just typed that as she told me. well, sans typing errors. mavis becaon didn't visit my house.

i'm going to stop typing now. ally needs to go get me a beer. ... ok that didn't work.

smart people are better than everyone else
I love science news: Smart people less likely to believe in god

It's not just a British thing. It's an American thing too. Look at the "Bible Belt. Rural Americans flock to religion. Also, there is a disproportionate amount of undereducated (read: stupid) people in that area as well. Those are also red states. Hmm.

I tried to fix my sleeping schedule but failed miserably. Now I sleep at random hours for random lengths of time. It's manageable chaos.

i need a bigger office
Running three differnet machines, 3 big ass monitors, 3 keyboards, 3 mice, and a load of random doodads on one old busted desk. I need a new desk. I also need longer power cords. Most importantly, I need a hex wrench for this foosball table that I, like an idiot, assembled in a room with a door too narrow to get it out of without disassembling it. Maybe I can just take the legs off. Then I can fit another cheap desk in here.

The Andromeda Strain was a 2 part movie event thing on A&E. I was underwhelmed. I want my 4 hours back.

indy, couch, blah
I'm excited to see the long-awaited 4th Indiana Jones movie tonight. I've never been much of an Indy geek but I cannot deny the impact seeing the movies had on my childhood. I rather enjoy adventure fiction set in the post-industrial, pre-modern, WWII era. The world was somehow bigger then, at least in narrative, and easily fits the steampunk genre within its relative borders. I just hope they don't screw it up. George Lucas is known to screw up franchises of his own design. Now, if a guy with white armor in his bedroom closet says that, you know it's true.

The Ugly Couch Show is coming along nicely. The shows are getting crisper, the dialogue is getting sharper, and subscription links are being added. Our geeky hobby is slowly growing up. I only wish we had a few days a week to devote to it. Alas, none of us are independently wealthy. Yet.

This post would be longer but I have to get back to work. I think I may have too many irons in the fire. Bah. We'll see.

this download is taking forever
sick at home and impatiently waiting on a download.

grabbing an entire site for archive before I replace it with a new site for a client. was holding off on this until the client acquired the right domain for it but now people are getting ancy so whatever.

sitll have to redesign our own site. most designers' sites are often neglected in favor of clients' sites anyway, but it's starting to affect new business.

lots of work on my plate and not much of it actually pays off in the near future. very frustrating. i'm also hungry.

Iron Man and Other Nonsense
Iron Man is the best movie I've seen in a while. It's great fun and fast-paced, and Robert Downey, Jr. gives a stellar performance as Tony Stark. The writing and the production values do the comic justice, and the 2 minute bit after the credits alone makes the ticket price worth it. (No spoilers, go watch it.)

I am facing a potential scheduling conflict in July. Do I go to San Diego as I have gone for the past 8 years, or do I go out of country for a business opportunity? I already have my plans set for San Diego (hotel, convention tickets, travel, et cetera). The business opportunity is not a sure thing. Meh. I have a week or so to figure it out.

The Puff Lounge is mediocre. Drinks are incredibly overpriced, as expected. It is not as comfortable as Red or Paymon's. The eerie blue glow is the opposite of warm and inviting. The loud music makes it difficult to be heard. Also, I cannot order food in the main area.

Portishead just dropped their first album in ten years. Apparently they've strayed from their trip-hop roots and gone towards grungy experimental noise for inspiration. Thankfully, Beth Gibbons' bone-grinding wail is omnipresent throughout, though the music is unsettling, as if you took a drink from a opaque cup and expected to taste water and instead got milk. It's a good record, but not at all what I expected. It's been many long years since anyone did anything big in that awesome Bristol sound. Maybe i'm old, and maybe trip-hop is out of style, but that doesn't mean it's bad music. For my money, trip-hop artists (massive attack, lamb, tricky, theivery corporation, etc.) are some of the best listens.
